PASSION!
It’s what makes us different, and drives us with each new project.
Open Top Productions was created as a way to blend together two passions of its founder: history and film. Being a living historian, he was constantly wanting to find a way to expose a more authentic view of history to the general public that would reach beyond the confines of historical sites. He loves history and the stories held therein, and wants others to experience appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
In this day of instant gratification and virtual reality, however, many people satiate their historical curiosity through the internet (Google, YouTube, etc) or via television and Netflix programs. While there is nothing wrong with this, it opens the door for a glut of incorrect information, mistaken assumptions, and the politicizing of what should be the simple re-telling of a story. At the same time, the story and visuals have to be compelling and interesting to engage the audience – all the more challenging today.
Open Top Productions bridges that gap by using some of the best reenactors, selecting shots not often seen in historical pieces, and maintaining an inventive and fun atmosphere. Some projects are simply romps filmed while at a reenactment or competitive shoot, while others are more heavy-handed and narrative.
In addition to its historical work, Open Top Productions performs work for hire. From bands to business, if you need quality video to promote your product or service, OTP can accommodate you. To get in touch with our management, please click here.
Our Outfit:
Ben vonDielingen, Founder
The company’s founder, Ben vonDielingen, realized he wasn’t seeing what he wanted in the marketplace, and decided to take matters into his own hands. Having worked in the
television and film industry in Los Angeles during the early 2000s, he decided to dip his toe back in the water with the readily available technology today offers. While juggling a rewarding professional and personal life, Ben has been able to produce promotions, commercials and “edutainment” options for Open Top Productions. Ben is currently in talks with his former industry contacts to develop a short film focusing on the exploits of the Reno Gang.
