October 12, 1492: Christopher Columbus
lands his crew in the Bahamas.
October 8, 1862: The Battle of Perryville, KY ends with a Union victory on the grounds,
but a Confederate tactical victory. Confederate General Braxton Bragg had pushed the Union army successfully back, but news of reinforcements en route to the battlegrounds caused him to withdraw. Afterwards, the Union maintained control of Kentucky for the rest of the war.
December 8, 1863: President Abraham Lincoln
issues a Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction.
